The Senior Healthcare Support Worker will support registered healthcare professionals in the delivery of high quality and compassionate specialist health care in a range of health and social care services. Clinical, therapeutic, or diagnostic care will be provided under the direct or indirect supervision of a registered healthcare professionals.

  • Entry requirements

    • Skills assessment in literacy and numeracy minimum entry requirement Level 2
    • GCSE grades 4 or above in English and Maths or equivalent
    • Apprentices without Level 2 English and Maths will need to achieve this level prior to completion of their apprenticeship
    • Candidates should ideally have achieved qualifications in a related area at Level 2
    • Occupational skill scan, writing assessment, curriculum interview.

  • Delivery/Study method

    On-the-job training at a workplace in appropriate Healthcare Assistant role. Minimum of 30 hours per week including a day/ block release to study theory at our Uxbridge/ Hayes/ Harrow campus.

  • What will I learn?

    Through this Level 3 Healthcare Support Worker Apprenticeship you will learn:

    • Ways to support individuals to develop and maintain their independence in carrying out daily living activities
    • The structure and function of the skin plus underlying tissues and factors that lead to tissues being compromised. Assist with tissue viability risk assessments and manage pressure areas
    • The principles of wound management and the equipment and materials that are used to treat wounds 
    • Recognise and respond to the signs and symptoms that indicate an individual’s physical or mental health and wellbeing are deteriorating
    • How to support adults to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.

  • Duration and assessment

    The duration of the apprenticeship is typically 24 months.

    Industry – Specific requirements:
    Undertake the Disclosure and Barring Service process and provide the result.

  • Where next? Career/study opportunities

    After this apprenticeship you could progress to an apprenticeship at Level 5 in one of the following:

    • Assistant Practitioner in Healthcare
    • Nursing Associate Apprenticeship


    Or to higher education programmes, providing all entry requirements are met.
